Program Description:
STFL Costa Rica CapThis program offers a two-week course of cultural and Spanish language immersion for social workers in Costa Rica. The course is designed for graduate students but is available to Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) students with consent of instructor and the BSW Program Director.

The Cultural and Spanish Language Immersion for Social Workers class is a two-week course offered with homestays in Grecia, Costa Rica. The academic content includes daily Spanish classes in the morning and afternoon lectures about Latino culture, Central American social services, and the social work profession in Costa Rica compared and contrasted with the United States. There are several field trips to various social service organizations around the central region of Costa Rica.

  • 1 Recommendation Form (submitted electronically via VikingsAbroad)
    • This is not a formal letter of recommendation, rather your recommender will need to fill out a short questionnaire about you with space for comments. 
    • This cannot be submitted by the program leader
    • These must be Professional or Academic in nature
  • Interview
  • $50 Application Fee. This is billed to your student account after the deadline when your application is reviewed.

*Application Fee: All applications include a $50 non-refundable fee due on the application deadline. Students who do not intend to complete a program application are required to withdraw before the deadline, otherwise, the $50 application fee will be assessed to the students' account.
