Program Description:

Program OverviewPSU Exchange Kaohsiung Sum

NSYSU was established in 1980 in Kaohsiung City and has become one of the most promising universities in Taiwan. NSYSU has endeavored to pursue excellence in teaching and research and has been granted the "Aim for the Top University Plan" funding by the Ministry of Education to strive for excellence in both teaching and research. 

The NSYSU campus is uniquely located on the edge of the Sizih Bay looking at the Kaohsiung Harbor with the mountains in the back. This strategic geography prompted NSYSU to focus advancements in marine research to become the leading academic institution in marine sciences in Taiwan. 

Program Focus

Founded in 1997, the Chinese Language Center (CLC) is a government-recognized center for teaching Chinese as a foreign language of the National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) in Kaohsiung city. The NSYSU campus sits on 69 beautiful hectares right adjacent to the Hsitzu Bay, one of the popular scenic spots in Taiwan. Located alongside the Kaohsiung Harbor, the campus faces the open waters of the Taiwan Strait. With the lush and green hills of the Longevity Mountain as its backdrop, NSYSU provides a serene and inspirational environment for studies.

The CLC aims to cultivate students’ Chinese comprehension abilities of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The center not only provides Chinese language program for foreigners, but also designs special programs to meet the needs of foreigners with advanced Chinese proficiency. In the past years, students from more than thirty countries have attended the CLC programs. All levels of standard and classical Chinese as well as Chinese culture are taught here. Students will be able to use their Chinese skills to obtain more professional knowledge, to be competent in career, and to realize the essence of local culture. Whatever your motivation or initial level is, the CLC will do all it can to ensure that you make rapid progress.

All classes at the CLC are conducted in the target language. Mandarin Phonetic Symbols is used to familiarize the students with the strokes and components of Chinese characters.

Application Fee:
All applications include a $50 non-refundable fee due on the application deadline. Students who do not intend to complete a program application are required to withdraw before the deadline, otherwise, the $50 application fee will
be assessed to the students' account.
