Haifa is Israel's third largest city. First and foremost a port city for international commerce, it has in recent decades become a major center for Israel's high-tech industry. Build on Mount Carmel, Haifa is a collection of diverse, picturesque, and easily accessible neighborhoods from the port area of in the lower city, to the commercial Hadar area in the middle tier, and the beautiful residential area of the upper ridge.
Founded in 1963, the University of Haifa has quickly become one of Israel's leading universities. The university community, consisting of over 16,000 students is a blend of Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Druze and Bedouin students who reflect the diverse ethnic and religious cultures of Israel. During the course of one summer, the University of Haifa International School offers month-long programs for students and adult learners from all over the world. Each four-week program allows the student to benefit from the unique cultural diversity that the university and city of Haifa offers. Students can choose to take classes in different subject that are all unique to Israel as part of a mini semester. There will be five different course offerings for the month of June. Each class meets three times a week and awards 4 - 5 quarter credits. Students can choose to enroll in a maximum of three classes, for a combined total of 13 quarter credits.
Course offerings vary, but could cover the following academic disciplines: Terrorism and Responses; Israel: A Mosaic of Culture, Religion and History; Green Technologies; Peace Psychology; or Economic Networks. An Internship Program is also possible. Alternatively, Intensive Hebrew and Arabic language courses allow students to make rapid progress in the language. For students in need of a field school, the University of Haifa offers a variety of options throughout the summer.
