Program Overview
Surrounded by soaring medieval towers and Gothic architecture, discover Siena – a Tuscan jewel seemingly untouched by the modern age. Stroll through the Piazza del Campo, one of Europe’s most beautiful civic spaces. Visit the distinctive Duomo and its museum where you will see first-hand works of the Italian masters Duccio and Giotto. Enjoy convenient access to Florence, Pisa, Rome, Venice, and Milan. Immerse yourself in historical and contemporary Italy.
Program Focus
The GEO Siena program is designed for students wishing to combine the study of Italian language (for absolute beginners to advanced) with courses in fields including Anthropology, Art History, Communications, Economics, Food and Culture, History, and Political Science. Students can elect to enroll in intensive Italian language for 100 contact hours at the beginning or advanced levels, or in semi-intensive courses at all levels for 50 hours. Students enroll in the Intercultural Communications course and, combined with a community placement, can elect to earn Service Learning credit. Students opting to enroll in Service Learning can select from a variety of opportunities, including placements at a pottery arts program for the disabled, in a day care center, an elementary school, with the Social and Rescue Services or with a retirement center. In addition to Italian Language and the ICC course, students enroll in one to three additional courses offered on site to round out their Italian cultural experience. In addition to the GEO courses offered on site, students can also opt to enroll in an extra-curricular Italian Cooking Course (for an additional fee).
