Program OverviewCIEE Botswana

Botswana is one of Africa’s most stable countries, and a multi-party democracy. It is unusual in that the majority of its population is from a single ethnic group, the Tswana. Gaborone, the capital city, is one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities and lies in southeastern Botswana, close to the border of South Africa. In addition to the main campus of the University of Botswana, Gaborone also hosts the headquarters of the 10 nation Southern African Development Community, which focuses on regional development, economic growth, and poverty alleviation

Program Focus

Ready to learn in the heart of southern Africa, a land of diverse and vibrant beauty? In Botswana with CIEE, you’ll experience the friendly people and beautiful nature of one of the Earth’s most untouched habitats. Learn firsthand about the country’s rich history, fast-growing economy, and biodiversity. CIEE’s program is full of interaction with the people of this special country. Take classes with local students, learn the Setswana language, go on excursions, live with a local family, and so much more.
