Program Description:

Program OverviewCIEE Amman

Amman, Jordan's capital, is a rapidly growing city with a history extending back at least 5,000 years. Despite its long history, most of Amman is quite new, having been built after World War II. The city is draped over several hills, has a bustling souk (marketplace), and numerous museums, art galleries, theaters, and cinemas. Amman is cosmopolitan, with inhabitants from all over the Middle East. The city provides a safe and stable environment while offering many opportunities for students to learn about the region.

Program Focus

The CIEE Study Center in Amman, Jordan is operated in conjunction with two host institutions: The University of Jordan and America-Mideast Educational and Training Services (AMIDEAST). The CIEE program offers students a series of specially designed area studies courses in such fields as archaeology, economics, history, international relations, literature, media, politics, religion, and sociology. Area studies courses provide an overview of issues relevant to Jordan and the broader Middle East region. Although there is no language pre-requisite, all students are required to take both Modern Standard and Colloquial Jordanian Arabic while in Amman.
