Program Overview CIEE Monteverde Summer

Costa Rica is the ideal location in which to study tropical biology and conservation. As a land bridge between North and South America, and with a unique geography and climate, Costa Rica offers a high biodiversity of both species and ecosystems. The country is a center of tropical ecology research and teaching in the Western Hemisphere and a model for the rest of the developing world in conservation; 20% of Costa Rica is composed of extensive national parks and biological reserves.

Program Focus

The summer Tropical Ecology and Conservation study abroad program in Monteverde, Costa Rica is designed for students with biology-related majors who have completed at least one semester of college-level biology plus one additional semester of college-level biology, ecology or environmental science and who seek intensive, sophisticated tropical field and science course work in Costa Rica from both theoretical and taxonomic perspectives. All courses are taught in English.
