Program Description:

Program Overview CIEE Lisbon

Lisbon is a hilly city, and every hill looks down on the blue waters of the Tagus River. Lisboetas share an openness that is nurtured by the city's proximity to the Atlantic. These days, the city that once sent the first European ships around Africa's southern cape to India and Japan receives more people than it sends out. A European city that has so far escaped mass tourism, Lisbon is a rare find: a fast-modernizing metropolis that has retained the allure of its colorful history. This welcoming city poses interesting challenges to the curious of mind, challenges that have as much to do with the rich Atlantic culture of which Portugal has been traditionally a part, as they do with the larger processes of globalization and European integration.
