The Madrid program is ideal for students who wish to study Spanish, Art/Art History and European Studies (semester only) in one of the world's great capitals. Classes are taught at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos Vicálvaro Campus, which is inviting, modern, and student-friendly. It provides a great learning and social atmosphere.
Program Focus
Students can study for one semester, a full year, or during the summer (a 4-week session). During the semester, you will be able to study Spanish language and the complexities of Spanish and contemporary European societies through a wide selection of academic courses, as well as through personal interaction with the host culture. This program offers two diverse academic areas: Intensive Language and Spanish and European Studies. Our intensive language approach allows you to complete up to two years of university foreign language coursework in only one semester. You may stay for one semester or a full year. The program also offers excellent classes in Art History, Spanish Cinema, History of Photography, and Drawing.
In addition to the academic strengths of the program, the program offers the possibility of participating in a plethora of extracurricular activities. Cultural and sporting events abound, day trips to nearby cities are recommended, and Madrid's nightlife is unequalled by any other European capital.
Students who opt for Spanish Studies will have ample opportunity to practice their newly learned skills both inside and outside the classroom. Bustling pedestrian areas, busy cafés, vibrant nightlife, and diverse neighborhoods make Madrid a socially engaging metropolis. Students who choose Art History Studies will have the good fortune of access to three world-renowned art museums: the Prado Museum, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía National Museum. These museums, which are the pride and joy of Madrid, comprise what is commonly referred to as the "Golden Triangle" of art, as all three are located within a mile of each other. A more privileged place to study art isn’t easily found!
