This program is designed to help heritage speakers discover and develop their inherent linguistic abilities. You will learn to maintain and improve your Spanish knowledge and apply reading and writing skills acquired in English into the Spanish language. All courses are taught in Spanish and you will be in class with other heritage speakers. You will live with a host family or in the Ovida residence hall in Oviedo, which will further assist in the speed of cultural immersion. Homestays in Oviedo are carefully selected to fit your needs. In-class learning is complemented by field trips, guided visits and other group activities included in the program fee.
Enroll the unique Hispanic Heritage course (60 contact hours), designed specifically for native speakers of Spanish. Take class with other heritage speakers to discover and develop inherent linguistic abilities, maintain and improve formal Spanish knowledge, and apply reading and writing skills acquired in English into the Spanish language. Your learning experience will also be supplemented with several excursions in and around Oviedo. Classes are held in the mornings, allowing you the opportunity to enjoy the many leisure activities offered in the area during the summer.
Actual credit awarded is determined by the relevant department at your university in consultation with the study abroad office. Check with your study abroad advisor for more information.?
