Studying at the University of Bologna (Unibo) is a great choice for students who have already studied Italian at the college level for at least 2 years. PSU students are able to take courses in Italian, as well as enroll in Italian language courses for foreigners. Additionally, there may be opportunities for students to take a select number of courses taught in English.
Bologna and Unibo have lived side by side for nine centuries; their stories are entwined. Unibo is a university based firmly in the historical centre of the city, where still today students and teachers live and work among the columns, palaces, halls, stairways and squares that tell the story of their predecessors. The university and the city of Bologna blend into each other, institution and territory, urban history and geography, economy and culture. Students who study in Bologna at "Unibo" will find it possible to become immersed in Italian language and culture, while appreciating a mid-size, student-friendly Italian city, known for its wonderful markets and restaurants.
The Università di Bologna (UNIBO) founded around 1088, is Italy’s second largest public university (after Rome - La Sapienza) with an enrollment of over 60,000 students (not including the roughly 20,000 students in the satellite programs in Ravenna, Forlì, Cesena and Rimini). The University of Bologna was probably the first University in the western world. Its history is one of great thinkers in science and the humanities, making it an indispensable point of reference in the panorama of European culture. UNIBO is currently ranked # 1 in Italy in the category of institutions with more than 40,000 students (2014-2015 Censis report).
