Program Description:

STFL_Costa RicaProgram Overview

Join Dr. Heather Burns for an amazing opportunity to spend 9 beautiful days exploring earth, self, and community in the rainforest of Costa Rica, immersed in regenerative practices at Rancho Mastatal. This is truly a time to slow down, retreat, and engage in deep learning. We'll learn first-hand about regenerative earth-care projects by exploring a tropical ecosystem and engaging with the site’s many permaculture projects including gardens and natural buildings. We'll engage in regenerative self-care practices through stories, daily reflection, guided contemplative activities, and discussion of the coursebook, "The more beautiful world our hearts know is possible".

We'll also have daily time for journaling, sit spots, and movement such as swimming, and walking. Morning yoga and 3 delicious locally-procured meals a day will also contribute to our regenerative practice. We’ll learn about people-care and social and cultural regeneration through involvement with local people, an indigenous tribe, and local businesses and food traditions. This course is open to degree and non-degree seeking graduate students, and to graduate certificate students.

What if we are unable to travel in Summer 2021?

PSU Education Abroad recognizes the uncertainty regarding international travel in the coming months. In the case that this program is not able to travel, students will have the option to be enrolled in a local version of this course during the summer of 2021. If you are accepted into the travel program, you will be guaranteed a spot in the local course. However, participation in the local course is not required. For this online course, students are charged the equivalent of 4 credits of tuition based on residency status (resident, non-resident or WUE) and enrollment level (undergraduate or graduate). Review the rates of tuition here.

The international travel of this program may be canceled due to (but not limited to) the following reasons:
  • Travelers are required to quarantine for a number of days upon arrival
  • Major program components cannot be supported due to local restrictions
  • It is deemed unsafe to travel
If PSU Education Abroad cancels the program, participants will be refunded the $50 application fee, if paid by the date of cancellation. Participants will not be charged the program fee.
