Program Overview

CIEE Taipei Communications

It is often said that some of the most traditional forms of Chinese culture, religious practices, intellectual and cultural values, and creative arts are best preserved on the island of Taiwan. At the same time, Taiwan is a bustling and modern city with some six million residents and maintains a thriving civil society, with its democratic political system, free press, and uncensored Internet. Its capital, Taipei, is an international city with superb restaurants, modern hotels, ancient temples, churches, and an active nightlife. Taipei is known for its cuisine, and its popular music, film, and television are widely influential throughout East Asia.

Program Focus

This program is designed to provide students with a exceptional academic experience in a Chinese context through direct enrollment at National Chengchi University, small CIEE-designed Chinese language classes, cultural immersion, and experiential learning. This program is ideal for career-minded students who wish to experience an authentic university environment in Taiwan, choose from a wide array of content courses taught in Chinese or English—many of which are not available in mainland China. Students also learn Chinese through CIEE-designed language classes that emphasize the use of modern pedagogy, technology, and traditional Chinese characters. This program will help students of all Chinese language levels utilize their cultural knowledge, language training, and experiences in Taiwan as part of their long-term career goals.
