Program Description:

Program OverviewUSAC Bilbao/Getxo

Bilbao is a modern, cutting edge banking and service center with world class museums and art galleries, gleaming subways, futuristic music halls, and a modern airport. It was awarded the first "Nobel Prize for Cities"—the Lee Kuan Yew World City Prize—for its excellent sustainability, vibrancy, and livability. Both Bilbao and Getxo offer a variety of cultural events, museums and sports such as surfing, rowing, soccer, hiking, bicycling and more. Because of its natural coastal beauty, USAC students live in neighboring Getxo. The area is known for its culinary traditions and Basque cuisine is internationally recognized. Basque people take food seriously and you can enjoy a three-course meal in a fancy restaurant or snack on the delicious "pintxos," the Basque word for tapas.

Program Focus

Semester: Fall, Spring, Academic Year

The Bilbao / Getxo program is ideal for students who wish to develop an international business career and/or a bilingual career. You may stay for one semester or a full year and focus on studying Spanish Language and Cultural Studies or International Business. Our intensive language approach allows you to complete one to three courses (4-11 semester credits, which is 6-17 quarter credits) of university foreign language in only one semester, depending on your primary focus for the semester. The program also offers the opportunity to do internships.

Summer

PSU students can participate in the summer session II program, earning 3 to 4 semester credits (5 to 6 quarter credits). Take advantage of this study abroad opportunity, and learn how studying abroad can be a more meaningful and invigorating learning  experience than at home—both inside and outside of the classroom—because you will be in a different place. You may be more curious and alert than you usually are; use this heightened energy to enhance your studies as well as your cultural and geographical explorations. This program offers Spanish Language Studies classes, along with the option of taking International Business, Economic, Fiction Writing, and Cultural Studies classes. You even have the chance to take surfing as a physical education credit.
