Program Description:

Program OverviewCarpe Diem South Pacific Fiji

A 3-month program of adventure, environmental service work, and cultural immersion in Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. This is a great program for students interested in group travel/adventure in an English-speaking part of the world. It includes staying at beautiful beachside hostels, village homestays, urban exploration, and treks through the Australian Outback and New Zealand's rugged mountain passes. There are also opportunities for cultural experiences in Fijian villages, Aboriginal sacred sites, and in the large variety of climatic, environmental, and settlement regions of New Zealand.

Program Focus

This program is ideal for Freshman- and Sophomore-level students looking to gain international experience in the South Pacific. Volunteer service includes building low-cost houses or other community development projects for underprivileged families, environmental projects, and serving at intentional organic communities. Outdoor leadership school is part of the hands-on learning that also offers rugged outdoor conservation work in the countryside. Experiences offered in this program include:
  • A chance to learn about different aspects of Aboriginal culture in the Australian Outback,
  • An introduction to Tibetan Buddhism and meditation, and
  • The opportunity to dive Australia's Great Barrier Reef.
