Program Overview

CIEE Cape Town

Cape Town is Africa’s most popular destination for many reasons, starting with its glorious climate and natural attractions – from Table Mountain to stunning beaches. Situated on the southern tip of Africa, Cape Town is a vibrant multicultural city with a rich selection of day and night activities. Water sports, mountaineering, nightclubs, and restaurants are readily available. The city is also a microcosm of the challenges facing many African countries in transition – how to successfully operate within a global economy while grappling with the vast socioeconomic inequalities that are the legacy of the colonial and apartheid past.

Now an international tourist destination, Cape Town is a gracious host, leaving visitors a lifetime of memories. Discover the Mother City’s many jewels by customizing your study abroad term on the Open Campus Block Program. Take one, two, or three six-week blocks, select your courses from a wide range of subject areas. In Cape Town you’ll immerse yourself in the vibrant student community of the University of Cape Town, located in the Rondebosch district, a quaint residential district with easy access to restaurants, cafés and shops.

Stay in Cape Town the entire time or spend other blocks at our Global Institute locations in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, London, Madrid, Yucatán, Monteverde, Paris, Rio de Janeiro, Rome, Santiago, Shanghai, and Sydney.

Program Focus

Customize your study abroad experience. Our Open Campus program at the CIEE Global Institute - Cape Town offers maximum flexibility to engage and experience Cape Town in your own way. Match the academic experience with your interests, aspirations, and degree requirements: Take one, two, or three six-week blocks for your perfect amount of intensive study and cultural engagement, select your academic track from five options; then choose from a wide range of courses and subject areas.

No matter how you build your program, you’ll surround yourself with South African culture and people throughout the city of Cape Town. Live with other Open Campus students in a shared apartment or with South African hosts, and study in modern classrooms at the Global Institute – Cape Town. Get out and learn more about Cape Town and South Africa during integrated co-curricular and extra-curricular outings and structured study tours.
