Program Description:

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

Join the Outdoor Program on an awe-inspiring trek through Peru’s Cordillera Blanca. This majestic mountain range is home to some of the highest mountains in South America and the majority of glaciers in Peru. The adventure begins with a few days in the town of Huaraz, which will be our base for several acclimatization hikes. The six-day trek through the Santa Cruz and Ulta Valleys will take us past towering peaks, fertile valleys, and over high mountain passes. With donkeys carrying much of the load, we’ll be able to focus on the stunning landscape, rather than the weight of our packs! We’ll also have the opportunity to do a service project with a local family and get a sense of life high in the Andes Mountains.

IMPORTANT: You will need to go to the PSU Outdoor Program Office between the hours of 9 am and 5 pm (Mon-Fri) to sign up and pay the deposit. The deposit is due by MARCH 15, 2019.

This trip is considered moderate; much of the difficulty lies in the elevation. We’ll be at elevations ranging from 11,000 to 14,700 feet and each of the trekking days will be 4 to 7 hours of hiking while carrying a light pack. We recommend that you are in good physical condition prior to the trip; you will enjoy this experience more! A local guide will accompany us, but as a group we will be responsible for cooking and camp tasks throughout the trek.
