Program Description:

Program OverviewSTFL_Vienna, Austria

Vienna is one of Europe’s most historically vibrant, artistic, and fascinating cities. Crown of a vast bygone empire whose eccentric emperors and multicultural citizens left their stamp in its art, architecture, and customs, Vienna offers visitors layers upon layers of history and culture, and for creative writers that means inspiration at every turn.

Join author, publisher, and PSU English Instructor Mark Allen Cunningham for a richly interdisciplinary course exploring creative writing amid the art and history of this beautiful and sometimes overlooked capital on the Danube.

To study creative writing is to study the world. Through extensive city tours and excursions, cultural site visits, and inspiring seminars, workshops, and guest lectures, we will draw on the artful energy, inspirations, and complexities of Vienna in order to broaden the horizons of our writing practice and breathe new life into every line.

Students will be based near and will have access to the IES Study Abroad Study Center. Click here to see images of this beautiful study space.

Site Visits may include:

What if we are unable to travel in Summer 2021?

PSU Education Abroad recognizes the uncertainty regarding international travel in the coming months. Please be aware that some program components, like housing, site visits, transportation, may have to change due to rules and regulations in effect in Austria. Prior to the start of Spring Quarter, a decision will be made on whether or not this program will be able to travel.

In the case that this program is not able to travel, students will have the option to be enrolled in an online version of of this course during the summer of 2021. If you are accepted into the travel program, you will be guaranteed a spot in the online course. However, participation in the online course is not required. For this online course, students are charged the equivalent of 4 credits of tuition based on residency status (resident, non-resident or WUE) and enrollment level (undergraduate or graduate). The typical online fee of $35 per credit will also apply. Review the rates of tuition here.
